“Healing Touch offers the mind the opportunity to rest. Clients often report seeing their issues in new ways and engage in creative thinking styles and new options for themselves after a treatment.” Dorothea Hover-Kramer, EdD, RN, DCEP
What is Healing Touch?
The Healing Touch Program was developed by American holistic nurse Janet Mentgen in the 1980s. Healing Touch is a gentle non-invasive complementary therapy which uses light (still) hand placements on and off the body to help restore and balance energy that has been depleted due to mental or emotional stress, illness, injury, surgery or medical treatments. Healing Touch is not massage. There is no manipulation, pressure or stroking involved and the client is fully clothed. The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance to enable the body’s innate tendency for healing to occur.
Think of times when you have been stressed, mental or emotionally, and how it affected your body. You may have experienced muscle tightness in your neck and shoulders, developed a headache or had discomfort in other parts of your body. Stress also causes congestion in the energy system. Healing Touch techniques help to clear that congestion.
Healing Touch is very effective in relieving stress because it promotes the relaxation response. This a profound state of rest for both body and mind in which neither of them is over-active. Our body’s self-repairing mechanisms are triggered during this time. Once body and mind relax, I’ll use a series of techniques to release the stress, the tension, the pain and stimulate a balanced energy flow. But this isn’t all. Healing Touch not only restores a balanced energy flow in the physical but it also addresses the emotions and thought patterns that may linked to the stress. Healing Touch is pretty much like a “reset or reboot”. A session will leave you relaxed, yet uniquely energised.
Healing Touch facilitates healing either by improving bodily functioning, calming the mind, balancing the emotions or enhancing self-awareness and insight. Because of its ability to bring balance to all aspects of the individual, Healing Touch is an effective self-care tool that can help you maintain and promote health and well-being.
Healing Touch stands out in the field of Energy Healing for its collection of techniques (over 35) designed to bring general balance and healing to both body and mind by targeting specific physical/emotional issues, bodily functions and organs.

My Healing Touch Training and Practice
As a Board Certified Healing Touch Practitioner, I have completed a rigorous certification process which includes a standardized curriculum consisting of 5 levels of training followed by a minimum of 1 year mentored apprenticeship. I’m also a Healing Touch Instructor.
Healing touch was the first energy therapy in the USA to offer certification for its practitioners through an autonomous certification body. Becoming a Healing Touch Practitioner requires a commitment to physical, emotional, mental and spiritual growth, self-care and development. Healing Touch practitioners abide by a professional Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics. My role as a Healing Touch Practitioner is to promote self-healing, not to treat or diagnose.
Over the last 6 years, I’ve had the honour to support hundreds of clients who have come to my private practice or attend Healing Touch sessions at American Cancer Society Hope Lodge NYC where I volunteered for 5 years.
