What are Flower Essences?

Flowers delight us with their beautiful colours and wonderful scents but did you know that flowers have also healing powers?

Flower Essences (do you know, those small amber dropper bottles alongside the vitamins and herbal supplements aisle? the famous Rescue Remedy?) are a time-tested healing system that has been around for over 85 years and that enjoys a reputation for being both highly effective and very safe to use.

These gentle floral infusions, made by floating wild flowers in a bowl full of spring water in bright sunlight, are, above all, remedies for the emotions. They have been used to reduce stress, bring about a more positive approach to life and improve mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Upsets and trauma, fear, tension, lack of confidence, worry, discouragement, are just a few examples of situations where Flower Essences can be used.

Flower Essences are powerful tools for transformation and self-empowerment able to address and shift negative mental and emotional patterns and attitudes in an incredibly effective yet gentle way. They also bring more self-awareness and insight into our lives by helping us realise how stress, trauma and mental and emotional patterns and attitudes are affecting our health, happiness and well-being.

Each flower essence has its one personality, so to speak, carrying a specific healing property. For instance, Larch addresses lack of self-confidence, Bleeding Heart broken-heartedness and Hibiscus issues around feminine sexuality.

Flower Essences mirror the restorative effects we experience when we spend time in nature. The essences influence us through their inherent energy rather than through their physical or chemical composition. Flower Essences are “nature in a bottle”, an easy and effective way to bring the much-needed revitalizing energies of mother earth into our artificial city lives.

Don’t confuse Flower Essences with aromatherapy or herbal remedies. Flower Essences do not have any perfume nor do they contain any physical trace of the original flower or plant they were made from. They are non-toxic, suitable for the whole family, including babies, children, the elderly and pets, and compatible with any other form of treatment.

History of Flower Essences and Dr Bach

Remedies made from flowers have been part of traditional healing methods of many cultures across the world. However, the father of modern Flower Essences was an extraordinary man, visionary, and healer named Dr. Edward Bach.

Dr. Bach was a physician, surgeon, homeopath, pathologist, bacteriologist and immunologist, born in England in 1886. He realized, after careful observation of his patients, that mental and emotional attitudes, moods and personality traits played a key role in physical illness. He was persuaded that nature could provide a simpler and gentler way of treating disease and relieving human suffering. So, one by one, up to his death in 1936, he developed what today are known as the 38 Bach Flower Remedies. In the last 3 decades, the Flower Essences have literally “flourished”, and are made and used across all 5 continents.

    My passion for  Flower Essences started in the early 90s and  have been using them on myself and others since then. Over the years, I have trained with leading Flower Essence producers and teachers. I completed my 2 year professional training in the UK under the guidance of Flower Essence expert and author Clare G. Harvey. I hold a Diploma in International Flower Remedies and Gem essences as well as an ITEC Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology. As an Advanced Practitioner member of the British Flower and Vibrational Essence Association (BFVEA) and The Confederation of Registered Essence Practitioners (COREP), I abide by a Code of Ethics and Practice.
